Kim Lengel

 AWB Managing Director

Kim is excited and grateful for the opportunity to lead AWB in the next phase of its evolution. As a parent of an AWB actor, Kim appreciates how transformative being “seen” on the stage can be for people with disabilities who are typically marginalized.

Kim has over 30 years of leadership experience in a large regional nonprofit, the Philadelphia Zoo, where she served in positions beginning with intern and culminating in vice president. Her specialties in animal care, education, and conservation included responsibility for directing care and exhibition of the Zoo’s 3200 animals, managing a suite of local and international conservation projects, and supporting development of education programs for 1.2 million annual visitors, including over 100,000 students.

With a passion for accessibility, Kim led the Zoo’s efforts to redesign its educational programming to reach people of all backgrounds and abilities, partnering with local and national philanthropic entities to financially support changes.  The resulting changes enhanced the Zoo experience for people with physical and cognitive disabilities.

After leaving the Zoo, Kim served as a nonprofit leadership consultant with Canopy Strategic Partners and an adjunct professor in the Animal Biotechnology and Conservation program at Delaware Valley University.

Kim’s volunteer service includes board member of AWB, chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the Blind of Pennsylvania, board member of Quest Therapeutics, providing therapy on horseback for children with cognitive and physical disabilities, and board member of Loaves of Love food pantry.

Kim’s deep nonprofit leadership experience and lifelong passion for expanding opportunities for people with disabilities have found a perfect landing at AWB.
