Join us in honoring Jimmy Curran, Author, Public Speaker, Entrepreneur and Researcher with the 6th Annual Hero Award.

Jimmy Curran is 32 years old, currently residing independently in Center City Philadelphia and living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. He serves professionally as a Senior Competitive Research Analyst in the Office of Strategy and Planning at Independence Blue Cross. Personally, Jimmy has made it his mission to be an advocate for people with disabilities. Most recently, Jimmy was featured in a Comcast ad campaign to help bring to light the company’s new eye-gaze remote meant to help consumers with mobility impairments be more independent. In 2017, Jimmy also self-published a children’s book, Will the One-Winged Eagle, which teaches children self-acceptance, inclusion, and persistence in the face of adversity. Jimmy had sold over 2,000 copies of his book and has toured over 30 elementary schools to share his message. In 2013, he founded an apparel brand, [dis]ABLE, to combat the stigma attached to disability, which he has promoted at events across the country. While at Independence Blue Cross, Jimmy co-founded ABLE (Associates Beyond Limited Expectations), an employee resource group meant to advocate for employees with disabilities. Jimmy is a proud alumnus of Temple University’s Honors Program, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Finance in 2011.

AWB relies on volunteers.

The first Sunday of every month volunteers assist our actors at workshops as they learn their lines and rehearse their parts. Our most dedicated volunteers support our actors throughout the year and are a part of the yearly performance. There are opportunities for people who want a creative outlet through set design, props and costume development. Great for early teens, adults and seniors!
