At AWB, volunteers are essential to our programs. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, and some are even fellow or former actors. Will Thomas is a long-time actor and is one of our fantastic volunteers. Will is a talented performer who decided he wanted to do more than acting. He wanted to be an Assistant Director for both the Sr. and Jr. programs and a n Apprentice in our Acting Lab program. Will is so honored to be a part of this organization because it gives him a purpose and a career, and he could not imagine life without it. As the Assistant Director, he is the director’s right hand man for creative decisions. He enjoys working with the Juniors because he can be a role model for them. He says there is no better feeling in the world than when a child or parent says “you are our hero” and decides to join the program. Supporting the Juniors, as the next generations of our company, helps develop them into the best performers they can be and increases the longevity of AWB. Will enjoys working on our Senior program because it gives him the opportunity to support our biggest show of the year. Will loves getting to share his ideas and his input with the staff.  His experience as an actor allowed him to take center stage and now he has the honor of passing the torch and letting other performers take the spotlight.

Will also volunteers as an Apprentice in our Acting Lab program. He loves being an Apprentice because he is able to meet people from different backgrounds and show them the joys of the arts and the benefits they receive from expressing their creativity. The Acting Lab at Widener Memorial School is a program that is special to Will. Will said that the “kids really inspire him by overcoming the adversity that they face in their lives that isn’t their fault to begin with, and yet they continue to stay positive.” For other actors who are considering to become a mentor he says “that you should be humble. Realize that it is about the participants and not about you. One must put their ego aside and be willing to adapt when you need to. Take each actor and ask them what their goal is and then develop a plan for them to achieve their goals.”

Will is a dedicated volunteer who puts his heart and soul into everything he does.

AWB relies on volunteers.

The first Sunday of every month volunteers assist our actors at workshops as they learn their lines and rehearse their parts. Our most dedicated volunteers support our actors throughout the year and are a part of the yearly performance. There are opportunities for people who want a creative outlet through set design, props and costume development. Great for early teens, adults and seniors!
