The AWB 8th Annual Hero Award was held on September 7th at Water Works by Cescaphe in Philadelphia where nearly 200 people gathered to celebrate our AWB Hero. The Hero Award is the annual fundraiser raising money for Acting Without Boundaries (AWB) non-profit performing arts programs for people of all ages with physical disabilities. The event included a live and silent auction, a performance by the AWB Jr. Actors, and a catered station-style dinner by Cescaphe. The highlight of the evening is when AWB honored two remarkable individuals who dedicated their lives to improving the lives of people with disabilities. The Hero Award is given to a person with a physical disability who has displayed remarkable efforts to overcome adversity, enhance awareness, reduce stigma, and increase community access for individuals with disabilities. This year’s recipient was Mark Chilutti. Mark is the Assistant Vice President at Magee Rehab Hospital Foundation- Jefferson Health. He gave a heartfelt acceptance speech about his life and what the award meant to him.

This year, AWB announced and awarded their first ever AWB Outstanding Advocate Award. The Advocate Award is given to a person or organization who, through years of relentless support, dedication, and perseverance has made a substantial positive impact on the lives of people with disabilities and their families. This year’s recipient was Susan Tachau. Susan is the founder and retired Chief Executive Officer of Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation. Susan is a huge advocate for people with disabilities.  She gave a wonderful acceptance speech about her advocacy work and what the award meant to her.

Overall, the 2023 Hero Award event was a huge success for Acting Without Boundaries!

AWB relies on volunteers.

The first Sunday of every month volunteers assist our actors at workshops as they learn their lines and rehearse their parts. Our most dedicated volunteers support our actors throughout the year and are a part of the yearly performance. There are opportunities for people who want a creative outlet through set design, props and costume development. Great for early teens, adults and seniors!
